What’s In Season

Take a look at What’s In Season this month at the Markets!

What’s In Season

FRUIT

APPLES & PEARS: Fresh new-season apples are here! You'll find Kanzi, Missiles, Rockets (so little and cute!), Fujis, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Royal Galas, Granny Smiths, and organic Fuji & Royal Galas. New-season pears are also in, including Corella, Williams, Nashis, and Papples.

TROPICAL & EXOTIC: Watermelons are great value and taste delicious. Plus, custard apples, guavas, and Aussie dragonfruit are all available.

GRAPES: It’s been an incredible grape season! Plenty of flavourful varieties are still around—we especially love Long Black Sapphires this week.

CITRUS: Still waiting for the Aussie citrus season to kick off, so only imported navels are available. Finger limes are in stock, and limes are of decent value.

PASSIONFRUIT: Very scarce at the moment.

BERRIES: The heat in growing areas is giving berries great flavour, but they’re not lasting as long as usual.

STONEFRUIT: At this stage, plums are your best bet - there are still some nice ones around, perfect for poaching or stewing.

CITRUS: The warmer months never seem to deliver when you need citrus for summer drinks! Lemons aren’t great, and limes are very scarce. Aussie navels are in their late season and will be finishing soon.

VEGETABLES

TOMATOES: Heirloom varieties are still tasting great. Locally grown cherry and grape tomatoes are available direct from the grower. We’re yet to see good-value Roma tomatoes for sauce-making.

ASPARAGUS: Good-value Australian asparagus available.

BEANS & PEAS: Round beans are scarce, but snake beans are looking good. Borlotti beans are also available.

AVOCADO: Shepherd avocados are in season. Hass avocados are available but not at their best.

RECOMMENDED / GREAT VALUE: Broccoli, corn, zucchini, and cucumber.

GARLIC: Australian and locally grown garlic is in season.

POTATOES: Our top picks are Sebago and cocktail potatoes.

FLOWERS: Cute Easter daisies are in season, along with fresh protea bunches. Freesias are also in high demand!
