What’s In Season

What’s In Season

FRUIT

APPLES & PEARS: All apples are new in-season, with local, direct-from-the-grower Kanzi's, Royal Gala’s, Red's, Johnathon’s & Galaxies all available. Organic apples are also available, as well as new-season pears.

TROPICAL: Papaya is very scarce. Pineapples are also scarce, with tops on our pick.

GRAPES: Very late season for Australian grapes. Autumn crisps and Jack salutes are our pick.

EXOTIC: Lots of great Autumn exotics are in season—Aussie pomegranates are very good, persimmons are soft and regular, quinces are custard apples, and figs are good value. Mangosteen is still available; it has been a great season for Aussie mangosteen this year. Guava, tamarillo, and starfruit are also available.

PASSIONFRUIT: Great value and eating well.

BERRIES: Strawberries are scarce as we are between seasons in two growing regions with less optimal growing weather. They are eating well but not lasting very long. Raspberries and blackberries are available, as you would expect for this time of year. Blueberry supply is improving, so look for prices to come down.

CITRUS: Aussie navels are in full flow. Lemons and limes are very good value. Imperial mandarins are available, though it hasn't been the best mandarin season so far.

MELONS: Watermelons are eating well and have decent value. Rockmelons and honeydew are scarce.

VEGETABLES

AVOCADOES: Hass and shepherds are available.

SCARCE: Tomatoes, especially round, and Romas cherry truss. Our flavour pick, cherry tomatoes, has also improved. Corn is very scarce. Cabbage is still scarce. Long red chillies are scarce.

BEANS & PEAS: Round beans are very good. Peas are available, though scarce. Brussels sprouts have started.

RECOMMEND/DECENT VALUE: Pumpkin, carrots, broccolini, and broccoli. It’s a great time of year for cauliflower and zucchini. Chinese vegetables and bunched greens are also good.

GARLIC: Aussie garlic is in season.

FLOWERS: Tulips are in seasons. Poppies and jonquils have started, with proteas in season.
